NSCC - ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY & DEVELOPMENT

Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) is a vibrant post-secondary institution committed to building Nova Scotia's economy and quality of life through education and innovation. NSCC offers over 100 programs in five academic schools that reflect the labour market needs and opportunities of the provincial economy, and serves the province through a network of 13 campuses.

Integrated renewable energy and advanced building systems create a minimal ecological footprint and provide a unique learning experience for students in 14 programs within the School of Trades & Technology, representing a huge step forward in sustainable design.

Embedded in the curricula will be the ecological theme that goes hand-in-hand with the College's environmental goals. The CBE will act as the focal point, around which the Nova Scotia industry can develop leading-edge environmental knowledge and sustainable practices that are in growing demand worldwide. VALLEY WASTE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT


Valley Waste-Resource Management was formed under an Intermunicipal Services Agreement encompassing the Municipalities of Annapolis and Kings and the Towns of Berwick, Bridgetown, Middleton, Hantsport, Kentville and Wolfville.

Our primary business is providing waste-resource management services for those municipal units also known as Valley Region 5 as per the Nova Scotia's Solid Waste-Resource Management Regulations.

We operate two Waste Management Centres and 2 Household Hazardous Waste depots located in Kentville, Kings County and Lawrenctown Annapolis County. We service approximately 84,000 residents across Valley Region and have been in operation since 1999 with a staffing complement of 30.

DEFENCE CONSTRUCTION CANADA

Since the early 1990s, DCC has provided environmental science and environmental engineering services to DND. Now, these services make up a significant part of the Corporation's business. Increasingly, as DND is faced with more environmental challenges, DCC's environmental capabilities continue to expand to meet these needs.

Environmental Services works with DND to meet environmental performance targets, comply with regulatory requirements, and manage due diligence and risk. Some of the service line's key activities include:

  • environmental impact and site assessments
  • site remediation and decommissioning
  • environmental support for project and program management
  • sustainable development strategy support
  • policy, compliance and advisory services
  • waste management auditing and planning
  • environmental monitoring and compliance auditing

We have experts throughout Canada who know the environment and who have access to a national network of specialists including environmental engineers, biologists, scientists and specialists. This means we can meet DND's rigorous operational needs and the federal government?s contracting policy with the very latest in environmental protection and management.
