ESANS President's Message - June 22, 2011

Dear Members:

Over the past two years, ESANS has undergone a metamorphosis. At last count, we have 19 Premier and 19 Prominent members in a membership comprising over 190 organizations.

Our members include organizations and individuals involved in consulting, manufacturing, energy, agriculture, forestry, fisheries & oceans, property management & real estate, infrastructure development, construction, academia, banking and insurance, law and government. As such, ESANS membership represents an important part of the economy of Nova Scotia. At the Annual General Meeting held on June 3, ESANS members ratified a new slate of Directors.

Over the past two years, in my capacity as an ESANS Director, I have had the pleasure of working with a talented and dedicated group of colleagues.

Andrew Thalheimer has done an exemplary job as President of ESANS and Chair of the Nominating Committee. I look forward to benefitting from his experience, in his new role as Past President.

Al Ramsay our incoming VP, was chair of the Membership Committee.

Andrew Kendall played a key role in planning and implementing a new event, our very successful EnviroTechR&D2011, held in March.

I also want to acknowledge the special contributions of the following individuals over the past year: Russell Dmytriw served as Vice President and chair of the ESANS Government Affairs Committee Marc Dunning was Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. Marc was presented with a special recognition award at the ESANS Annual General Meeting, for his four year commitment and many contributions to ESANS.

Sandra Lynch, our Office Administrator, has done excellent work in on multiple fronts, through thick and thin.

Finally, as most of our members already know but it bears repeating, Adam Cooney has brought energy and vision to his work as ESANS Executive Director.

During Summer 2011, the new ESANS Board will be revisiting the 2009-2014 Strategic Plan in order to take stock of where we are now as an organization. In particular, we want to be sure that we meet the needs of a diverse and ever-growing membership.

All of us on the ESANS Board of Directors look forward to serving our members, in diverse and impactful ways, in the coming year. ESANS has the following events planned for Fall 2011:

  • December 6 - ESANS' Holiday Networking Event (Sydney)
  • December 8 - ESANS' Holiday Networking Event (Halifax)
